Darby Vedder is the creative force behind Cardinal Pond Design & Landscapes—a lifelong nature lover, detail-obsessed designer, and builder of truly unforgettable outdoor spaces. With over 20 years of experience in landscape design and a deep-rooted passion for water, Darby specializes in crafting custom ponds, waterfalls, and outdoor living environments that work with nature—not against it.

Originally from upstate New York, Darby spent his early years exploring rivers, ponds, and forests—drawn to the peace and wonder that natural water always brought. When he discovered Aquascape’s ecosystem-based building method, it clicked instantly. Their philosophy of designing in harmony with the environment aligned perfectly with his own, and he became a Certified Aquascape Contractor to bring that vision to life for his clients.

The name Cardinal Pond Design & Landscapes is more than just branding—it’s deeply personal. Inspired by his late mother, who he considered his guide and protector – his “cardinal”, Darby named the business in her honor. In Native folklore, red cardinals symbolize peace, good fortune, devotion, and protection—values that are at the heart of every project he takes on.

Known for his artistic eye, thoroughness ("leave no stone unturned"…more than just a motto), and sincere approach, Darby takes pride in creating spaces that feel as good as they look. His ultimate goal? To make every yard more beautiful—and give clients a space they’ll enjoy with their families for years to come.
