Scalloped Urn Garden Feature on James Island

At Cardinal Pond Design & Landscapes, we love blending classic Lowcountry charm with modern water feature design. On this James Island property, we replaced a worn-out three-tier concrete fountain with a scalloped urn and spill bowl installation, framed by lush hydrangeas and centuries-old oaks along the water’s edge.

Project Highlights

  • From old to new – replaced a dilapidated, low-noise concrete fountain with a dynamic urn-and-bowl design.

  • Custom basin design – built a large aqua basin with 24 aqua blocks to support multiple scalloped urns and ensure consistent water flow.

  • Color + texture match – urns were chosen to complement the home’s brickwork and landscape palette.

  • Fire & water element – integrated a spill bowl for added movement, sound, and ambiance.

  • Natural details – driftwood with moss and layered plantings give the space an organic, lived-in feel.

  • Framed views – positioned for enjoyment both from the shaded backyard sitting areas and from inside the home.

  • Quick turnaround – installed in just three days, with Brownswood Nursery completing the surrounding landscape design.

This James Island garden shows how thoughtful upgrades can completely transform a backyard—adding both sound and style while honoring the property’s natural setting.
